Update: M4 Tongaat River Bridge repair

Below is a brief progress statement released this month regarding the M4 Tongaat River Bridge repair.

  • The recent PLC meeting dealt primarily with the progress on the construction of temporary support and bridge jacking at the Tongaat River Bridge.
  • Apart from a possible steel manufacturing delay, the main contractor is confident that the reopening of the bridge will take place as scheduled. Reassurance was subsequently obtained on the steel manufacturing.
  • The jacking of the bridge commenced last week.
  • The potential impact of the significant (and impressive) rehabilitation work that is currently being undertaken above the Nguni Complex in Westbrook was raised by the Chamber. Reassurance was provided that this work will be completed on time, and should there be any delays, the M4 will remain open past this site.
  • In mitigation of any potential risks, the Nguni HOA have agreed to 24 hours a day working to make up for any lost days.

A big thank you to the iLembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism for providing the update.
