As Ballito prepares to welcome winter school holidaymakers and Ballito Pro visitors, the Ballito UIP Cleaning, Greening, and Maintenance (CGM) team has remained focused on ensuring the precinct is well-kept and inviting.
Focused garden and verge maintenance
Two precinct gardens were completely revamped this month, with a brand-new garden installed at a key point along the P445. As part of seasonal care, we’ve also begun installing mulch in high-traffic garden beds to retain moisture and improve soil health. To date, around 50 cubic meters of mulch have been placed, significantly enhancing garden presentation across the precinct.
Daily weeding and pruning efforts continued throughout the precinct, especially following recent rains which prompted accelerated plant growth. The team also completed extensive grass cutting and sweeping to ensure public areas remained clean and navigable.
Litter and waste management
Approximately 3,950 refuse bags and 3,800 dog waste bags were used this month, with litter being removed from high-use zones like the promenade, parking lots, and beach access paths. Palm fronds and general debris were also cleared and removed off-site.
Ongoing maintenance and infrastructure repair
In addition to public space care, several infrastructure projects were tackled. Notable works included:
- Painting of the substation exterior at Salmon Bay
- Repairing stormwater drains
- Replacing planks on the Ballito Promenade
- Bollard and curb repairs, including 10 curb sections
- Painting of curbs along key roadways
- Repair of 25 minor and 3 major potholes
- Pavement repairs along several sections of the precinct
The team also conducted a full promenade clean-up, including sand removal, sweeping, and litter collection to ensure pathways were clear ahead of the upcoming Ballito Pro event.
