Each year, the Ballito Urban Improvement Precinct conducts a Perception Survey to understand how the precinct is experienced by those who live, work, invest, and spend time in Ballito.
The survey is an important accountability tool. It helps the UIP measure performance, identify what is working well, and highlight areas that require attention – ensuring that precinct priorities are informed by real experience on the ground.
What is a Perception Survey?
A perception survey gathers feedback from a wide range of precinct users, including businesses, property owners, employees, residents, and visitors. It focuses on day-to-day experience across key areas such as safety, cleanliness, maintenance, and overall confidence in the precinct.
Rather than measuring service delivery in isolation, the survey examines how those services are experienced and perceived by the people who use the precinct.
Why we run the survey annually
Running the survey annually allows the Ballito UIP to track changes in perception over time, assess the impact of precinct initiatives, and respond early to emerging issues.
The 2025 Perception Survey reflected strong confidence in the precinct, including:
- 95% of respondents indicated they would recommend Ballito to others
- An overall experience rating of 8.2 out of 10
- Positive feedback around cleanliness, safety, and overall precinct experience
Annual feedback strengthens accountability and supports informed decision-making for the year ahead.
How feedback is used
Survey insights help guide:
- Operational focus across cleaning, greening, maintenance and safety
- Engagement with service providers and the municipality
- Longer-term planning within the precinct
The results also allow the UIP to report back transparently on performance and priorities.
