Focused efforts in May keep Ballito pristine as we gear up for the Ballito Pro

Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance

The Ballito UIP Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance team continued their vital work throughout May, ensuring that the precinct remains well-maintained and visually appealing—especially as we prepare to welcome visitors and locals for the upcoming Ballito Pro event in June.

Ongoing maintenance and infrastructure repairs

Our team completed 25 minor pothole repairs across the precinct, contributing to safer roads for motorists. The exterior of the substation at Salmon Bay received a fresh coat of paint, enhancing the appearance of this key public infrastructure. Additionally, a stormwater drain was repaired to ensure improved drainage and reduce the risk of flooding during winter rains.

Our team also undertook to repair sinkholes on pavements due to the consistent wet weather. Below shows an example of the work carried out in the business precinct. Bollard repairs were also undertaken in various locations to improve pedestrian safety and visual consistency throughout the area.

Promenade clean-up and garden care

The promenade received a full clean-up this month, an essential task as it remains one of the most frequented public spaces in Ballito. In our green spaces, the team carried out extensive weeding and began revamping various gardens to improve their aesthetics and long-term sustainability. Mulch is being added to these garden beds to retain moisture and improve soil health. Image of our revitalised gardens will be shared with our members soon.

By the numbers

To date in May, approximately 3,900 refuse bags and 3,200 dog waste bags have been used across the precinct, underscoring the scale of the team’s daily cleaning efforts. We expect this to triple over the June/July break.

Looking ahead

As the Ballito Pro approaches, our teams will be increasing their focus on readiness—ensuring that high-traffic areas are in top condition and that the precinct offers a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all.
