Ballito UIP jumps into action with emergency beach clean-up plan following the recent floods

The Ballito UIP has employed 12 extra people to assist with cleaning the precinct and beaches following the severe flooding from earlier this week. Two skips have also been sourced to ensure rubbish is collected and removed as soon as possible.

Ballito UIP precinct manager Thierry Leclezio says the plan’s main focus is to remove plastic and debris and cut up dangerous trees and branches. This will be carted to our skips located outside La Montagne and at the Hawkins car park and taken away.”

Heavy rains over a five-day period caused major flooding in KZN with rivers depositing vast amounts of plastic and natural debris into the sea which has washed up on the beaches.

Leclezio added, “We hope to make some headway with the mess however high tides will continue to deposit rubbish on the beach so it will take time to completely clear the area. We thank everyone involved for their efforts so far and look forward to working collectively to make Ballito beautiful again.”
