Ballito Pro 2025: Behind the Scenes with the Ballito UIP

Community and Sustainability

Every year, the Ballito Pro brings world-class athletes, music, and lifestyle energy to our coastline. And every year, the Ballito Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) steps up to support the event—not just during the festival itself, but in the work we do every day to create a destination that lives up to its name.

This year the Ballito Pro Presented by O’Neill has once again transformed our town into a global stage for surf and sound. Under the theme, Sea. Sound. Waves., the event celebrates the flow of energy—through people, culture and place. It’s a fitting metaphor for the UIP’s role in the precinct: consistent, connected, and in motion.

Cleaning, Securing, Supporting

While the spotlight is on the surfers and performers, our UIP teams have been working behind the scenes. During the Ballito Pro, we deployed additional daytime security in busy outer zones, including informal parking areas and high-traffic public spaces that often sit outside the core event footprint. These areas may go unnoticed – but for us, they’re essential touchpoints in creating a safe, accessible precinct.

We’re also assigned dedicated cleaning staff to the VIP and contestant zones, ensuring these high-profile areas remain clean and well-managed. Our role isn’t about visibility – it’s about making the experience seamless for every person who walks through Ballito.

Our team may work behind the scenes, but we take pride in what the public experiences. When things run smoothly, it’s because someone thought ahead and showed up.
— Dieter Fittkau, Ballito UIP Operations Manager

A Living Expression of #lovenorthcoast

The Ballito UIP is also a proud contributor to the #lovenorthcoast campaign – an initiative that promotes the unique identity of our coastline. But we know that a campaign alone isn’t enough. What visitors see online should be backed by what they experience on the ground. From beautifully maintained public spaces to safety and visible care, we’re working to ensure that Ballito looks and feels like the destination it claims to be.

#lovenorthcoast isn’t just a slogan—it’s a standard. The impression we leave on the ground needs to match the promise people see online.”
— Thierry Leclezio, Ballito UIP Precinct Manager

Collaboration Makes It Possible

None of our work happens in isolation. Our success is built on collaboration with the KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM)  – across infrastructure repairs, service alignment, and on-the-ground responsiveness. This spirit of collaboration is key to creating the kind of precinct that can both host international events and support local life all year round.

That effort is also recognised in our latest Ballito UIP Perception Survey, respondents gave the precinct an 8.2 out of 10 overall experience rating.

A Precinct Built for More

As the Pro celebrates the power of sea, sound and waves, we’re reminded that momentum doesn’t just come from athletes or artists – it comes from the people behind the scenes. Those who clean before the cameras roll. Who secures the roads. Who maintain the spaces between the stages.

This is how we build Ballito: with purpose, with consistency, and with quiet pride in the everyday.
