Ballito’s own Cooper-Lee Smith will be surfing on Wednesday in the Ballito Billabong Junior Series, and at just 9-year-old is one of the youngest surfers to compete in this event.
Cooper is the cousin of WSL 2017 CT Rank #3 Jordy Smith who will be paddling out in this years’ competition and while Cooper is “super stoked” about being able to watch some of the world’s best surfers compete in his hometown he can’t wait for the chance to make new friends from other places in South Africa.
Cooper represents Durban surf nippers club and came 3rd in the flag races for KZN Nipper Champs and has been invited to train for the High Performance Surf Academy. While lucky enough to have Graham Smith Surfboards, Find The Stoke Surf Shop and Bos Ice Tea as his sponsors, for Cooper “surfing makes me happy”, which is evident from the broad grin he sports on each wave.
The Ballito UIP is super proud of Cooper and all the other local guys and girls competing the year.
